A1GP Dubai: Alex Yoong Retired From Feature Race
After being nudged off into a spin by Verstappen
A1 Team Malaysia's Alex Yoong was only three laps into the Feature race when he was nudged off by Netherlands' Jos Verstappen. He couldn't keep the engine running and retired from the race - his first retirement after 8 races in the inaugural A1 Grand Prix championship.
Alex had a very good start from 10th on the grid to launch himself to 6th upon taking turn 1. He was then involved in a coming together with another car in turn 2 which lost him 2 spots to 8th.
Malaysia was in 5th spot when Verstappen made his ambitious move on Alex.
"It was a disappointing weekend for us," said Alex.
"We have the pace to be up there with the top three this weekend. In the Feature race, I was up to fifth place but jos tried an apportunistic move from the outside, which left me no room and forced me into a spin. The engine died and we couldn't continue."
France's Nicolas Lapierre won the Feature race after starting from seventh on the grid. Battling up from ninth, A1 Team Great Britain took second place followed by Stephen Simpson who drove his way to South Africa’s first podium finish.
Malaysia maintained their top-10 championship position with 33 points in ninth.
